UX DESIGN | POLITICAL SCIENCE | ANIMATION

For the past year I’ve been on a journey to blend my diverse interests in design, research, animation and ultimately understanding other people into a career. Before making the switch to design, I was studying Political Science at Reed College (in the US) and interning at UNHCR (in Switzerland). Right now, I’m interested in taking on projects that empower users and use concrete research to challenge the status quo of how products and services are designed. In the long run, I hope to help maximize the impact that UX research can have on benefiting the humanitarian and development sector.

About me

Brand Challenge

This campaign was developed in a team of 10 and the client is a company that is developing an app to facilitate the buying and selling of cars in South Africa. To help create buzz around the brand, we developed a campaign that will focus on having people share stories of objects in their car from social media. The campaign slogan will be :

Look back at your memories, move forward with [ name of brand ]

To visualize the concept, the creative team developed an aesthetic to match the concept and created mock ups of billboards and social media posts. To tie the campaign to their site, I came up with the idea of an interactive gallery that could feature the best objects and memories.

Independent Study

This project is my independent project, which represents the cumulative skills I’ve learned over the course of my user centered design diploma. The final product is Echo, an app that analyzes, curates and challenges the way users consume news and content by presenting them with content and recommendations based on their consumption patterns, political beliefs, indicated interests and region. The name refers to the echo chambers many people find themselves in and the apps desire to make people aware of and get out of these chambers.

NGO Pulse

This brief for this project was to redesign the NGO Pulse website by The Southern African NGO Network (SANGONet). The website was launched on 24 October 2005 and it functions as a portal that provides information on and relevant to the NGO sector in Southern Africa and the region more broadly. It is Southern Africa’s largest and most comprehensive resource for NGOs but the site design hasn’t fundamentally changed since it was first launched. For this project, I conducted user and design research and applied it to redesign the site but hold on to key markers of its identity.
