ISABELLA GEORGE

GRAPHIC DESIGNER | ART DIRECTOR | CONTENT CREATOR

My name is Isabella George and I am the curator for IsabellaDesign. I am a Visual communicator specialising in graphic design with a passion for simple and effective design. It is my design goal to create graphics and elements of beauty whether that be as branding, a photo book, a magazine or a film, that create calm in a world of chaos and movement.

My strengths lie in type and language based solutions and a strong ability to conceptualise and create innovative solutions to problems through thought. I am very passionate about the design world and all the areas it has to offer.

About me

Nipit

The brief was to create, branding and 3D packaging for a Pharmaceutical product, real or invented. It must be forward thinking and innovative. This issue chosen was STD’s and STI’s and the negative stigma that surrounds the testing of them.

The solution here was to take away anything clinical, make the product something as easy and comforting as something you would use in your own home, something as easy as ordering a takeout. The branding is funky and joyful to bring ease to the consumer and take away any clinical or serious feel with bright colours and a fun bright font.

Adorn

Create a Font to convey a message by the UN during the global pandemic of Covid – 19. The insight that came from was the vitality of a mask and the negative stigma around it. The typeface Adorned was designed with small details added to a simple typeface, to show that adding something simple to something doesn’t have to take away from it but can make it more beautiful, like a mask on a face.

Adorn is a photography book using this custom typeface, its layout is clean and simple with an alternative structure to bring focus to the typeface and the photography.

Agapé

A Corporate Identity for a retreat based in the town Pella, a small town of 1600 in the Northern Cape. The unique aspect of this town is that it contains an 18 century Roman Catholic Cathedral, dedicated to the Catholic Saint of writers.

Agape is a three-day retreat for writers and literature fanatics. The branding for this retreat is cultivated from the town and its surroundings. The colour scheme and illustrations are based on the local landscape. The name and icons come from specifically the Cathedral itself.

Patina

Create a private label for Superbalist. This brand specialises in everyday basics and essentials for parents and kids in suburban areas. This insight was People often wear their loved one’s items of clothing as a way to remember them and their lives. Finding beauty in imperfection, like oxidation or freckles.

Leading to Patina and the creation of two logos, one simple and plain, and the other in the form of freckles, neutral warm tones contrasting cooler tones, and the use of gold foiling to represent the quality of clothing that Patina as a brand sells. Patina, clothing that remembers.

Collaborators: Pier Veller, Dee Geyser, Wen-Ching Chang.

OurKind

Create a piece of graphic design work based around the topic that was picked for a theory subject. The solution must be graphically orientated and contain at least four pieces of collateral.

The solution chosen was the branding for an NPO designed with the task of combatting stereotyping in children, to create a society free of judgment and prejudice.
