GABRIELLA FISH

GRAPHIC DESIGNER | ART DIRECTOR | BUSSINESS STRATEGY

Thank you for checking out my profile. My name is Gaby and I have a Business Science Honours degree, with majors in Finance and Accounting from the University of Cape Town (UCT). After graduating from UCT I spent a year working at Allan Gray which gave me invaluable industry experience in a corporate environment. I hope to be able to merge the two worlds (creative and business) in my future endeavours. My experience has shown me that a lot of communication gaps exist between them and having a solid foundation in both has opened my eyes to the importance of integrating them.

About me

Self Initiated

This project was the cornerstone of my final year at Red and Yellow. I was tasked with designing my own brief on a topic of my choosing. I chose to focus on breasts as myself and many individuals have multiple insecurities due to the normalization of perky and perfectly symmetrical breasts. The project aims to “reclaim your bits” by redefining normal to include and create a safe space for all boobies. I created the Instagram page @empoweringboobies as a result of this project, which has been greatly empowering for myself and others.

Pharmaceutical Packaging

This project helped me grieve the loss of my father; who passed away from pancreatic cancer on 04-07-2020. I was tasked with creating the packaging for a post-human pharmaceutical project. I focused on assisted suicide as; “dying with dignity,” and having the choice to end your own suffering was a moral issue I grappled with as I watched my Dad suffer through his disease. I wanted to make something beautiful that could come out of the suffering we endured as a family.

Advanced Typography and Layout

I was tasked with creating a font to use in an editorial design of my choosing. I created the font “koester” to be used in a zine for “uGogo” – a public benefit organization conceptualized for the purpose of this project. uGogo exists to encourage people to “do more, donate” to small businesses in South Africa that are struggling as a result of the COVID19 pandemic. The idea is to cherish or nurture the small business, to “koester” it, by becoming a grandmother to the business.

Brand Challenge 1

I worked on this project for Brand Challenge 1 with my colleagues; Singita Weston and Simon Wiley. We were tasked with creating a brand identity and campaign for a sportswear brand that encompasses everyday active living for Superbalist. Our insight was that it is very difficult to find a brand that provides under and outer wear that work together for your body. We created “NŪD”, a brand that ensures that all items of clothing exist in a symbiotic relationship that work together as an ecosystem; an extension of your own body. Behance project link.
