Hello there, my name is Dee – but you can call me Hilly!
I am an illustrator with a deep love for story telling, and a shallow love for public pools. Too much chlorine… If I was meeting you in person this would be way more uncomfortable but I am secretly very excited to show off some work through this here screen. Some of it will make you laugh (I hope), some of it might give you the sad feelies, maybe even both will happen at the same time! I bid thee farewell, please enjoy!

Durex Campaign


Disability and sex. These are topics that can be an awkward subject to discuss, but actually, how much do we know about inclusive sex? “What’s the Fxxx?” is a platform created by Durex to campaign a website whereby people of any ability gain access to inclusive sex education as well as products that aid people in exploring their sexual desires. “F’xxx’?” Stands for (x) Liberation, (x) Real Representation and (x) Creativity. By taking our XXX questionnaire we can encapsulate a person’s sexual identity and create a subscription box tailored to their responses. This is found on the What’s the Fxxx? website. The website includes a podcast and YouTube series where the guests speak to the viewers about the contents of their personalised box and educate the viewers on their inclusive sex lives. Durex is aiding us in creating our sexual landscape, without exclusion

Identity and type design


This brief tasked us with creating a visual identity that was accompanied by; hand-drawn logo, a hand-lettered alphabet to match, a colour palette and secondary font, as well as supporting graphics. I chose the lovechild of The Open Box Festival and The Book Lounge, The open Box Project, and created a brand new identity for their cause. The goal is to set up mini libraries in schools with limited resources, spark children’s imaginations and educate on the value of exploring new worlds through literature.

Self-initiated


Its Not Written In Stone is a campaign created with the purpose of broadening the conversation around mental health, as well as promote and donate to SADAG, The South African Depression And Anxiety Group. A long form video consisting of smaller gifs and animated text, this will be set to a poem about all of the things one might miss (if they were to not be alive anymore), which slowly becomes about some of the things one might in fact miss. The poem and animations contain humorous examples of the kinds of silly, yet specific examples that I hope convey the bizarre nature of intrusive thoughts.

My illustrated book follows the perspective of a sentient frog who is left behind to explore a vast overgrown world, left behind by the humans who now live in space.
The story begins during the early hours of the morning, the main character is introduced to the reader, who, as the day continues is able to make choices on how this little frog creature spends his time, as well as how he interacts with the world around him. No matter what decisions the reader makes, time inevitably passes, it’s how we spend it that counts. At the end of the day, readers will be given the option to begin a new day, and explore a different route.

CarFling is a disruptive new service that changes the way consumers view the car selling process. CarFling creates an opportunity to break stereotypes around the car industry – removing fears, lack of knowledge and boosting confidence that comes with buying and selling cars.
