I am a graphic designer with a background as a fine artist. I graduated with a diploma in Fine Art at Ruth Prowse (2017) majoring in oil painting, after which I dedicated a year of volunteering as a designer at a social business in Tel Aviv, Israel. Returning to Cape Town, I decided to take on the design world at Red&Yellow and further my knowledge as a creative and expand my business as a self-employed artist. I was fortunate to be nominated as one of the Loerie award finalists for a social media campaign project advocating Aware.Org’s social cause.
My expertise include UI/ UX design, logo design, video editing, app development, magazine layout, packaging design and social media campaign content creation. When I am not painting in my studio or creating digital content, I am teaching workshops at coffee shops in and around Cape Town on how to use instant coffee as a paint medium. I do live event/ wedding paintings for clients.
As a passionate, eager to learn, driven emerging creative, my biggest dream/ aspiration yet is to study abroad at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy. This will allow me the experience to inspire/ empower the next generation of emerging South-African traditional painters and dreamers.
For this brief we had to design an A3 (portrait or landscape format) linear narrative / infographic promoting an event. The narrative should have a beginning, middle and an end with a minimum of 5 icon illustrations. We also had to include a timeline and a headline. I incorporated information from an art event I was going to host at a local coffee shop (Swan Cafė) and combined that with the brief.
For this brief, we were instructed to design a brand identity as well as a CI Guide for any business/ imaginary company of our choice. I chose to create something for an embroidery side-hustle I have been tinkering with. The color palette and name was inspired by Cinderella’s fairytale story.
For this brief, we were given the task to create 5 pages or more for a magazine of our choice. I chose to create a contemporary art and design magazine, which already exists and that originated in America, called Create! Magazine. We had to design content for the following: Cover page, editor’s page, content page as well as the main story. Malibongwe Tyllo wrote an article for the Daily Maverick about a Cape Town based artist, Alice Toich which I received permission to use as copy for the mock-up magazine.
I joined forces with fellow students, Alice Bonnes (CDC) & Luvo Zwide (CGD) where we were assigned to create content for a live client, Aware.Org. Our client is a brand that concentrates on outreach, social change, or charity. We needed to address a certain problem on two social media platforms: Facebook and Instagram with a specific target audience in mind. We created a quick video as well as content for Facebook and Instagram that would engage and inform the target audience with the message of the client.
We were tasked with designing a website for a fictional/live character or organisation that focuses on spreading good news in difficult times such as the Covid-19 pandemic. We should plan and develop wireframes for at least three key web pages that best reflect the attributes of the character/organisation. I created a website for my art sale I was going to have and potentially develop it further into an e-commerce website. I designed an online store for my artworks to sell and for customers to view my work during the sale period.
