About me

Indepedent Study - Dementia

For my independent study, I chose Dementia as subject matter.

User and design research was conducted to establish if there is a need for a digital product that can assist people living with Dementia and those closely related (caregivers, family and medical professionals).

This research showed that South African living with Dementia is in need of an application that can assist them in remembering self-care and health related tasks to improve their quality of life as the most prevalent issues lie with medication adherence and maintaining adequate nutrition & self care.

Between 10&5

Between 10and5 was a group project where Uno De Waal, its founder, wanted to attract more users to the website – believing that an increase in video content was the way to go.

Through user and design research, the information architecture and interface of the website was improved to better meet the user and business needs.

The website’s content was reorganised to align with the user’s mental model and key revenue features such as the online shop was made more user-friendly and accessible.

Brand Challenge

For brand challenge, we had to work with students from different disciplines to solve a marketing orientated brief together.

Our group’s client, CarFling, wanted a disruptive user-focused marketing campaign that’s ready to launch and that showcases their value proposition of efficiency, convenience and value.

By investigating the pain points within the current car sales industry, our campaign tried to empathise with the user and show them how easy and seamless the process of selling a car can be if the CarFling application is used; hence our campaign line “selling your car shouldn’t be complicated, it should be CarFling.”

A micro site was developed as part of the campaign which hosts key service information for the user and acts as a communication channel between the brand and user.

Open Music Archive

The aim of this project was to evaluate the navigation and information structure of the Open Music Archive website and improve the structuring, labelling and organising of the website’s content through user and design research.

. The issues identified through the research, especially the usability testing, were in relation to searching for and browsing through recordings, inadequate community/collaboration features and inconsistencies in navigational elements. These key findings, as well as the business goals, guided the concept behind the prototyping phase of the project.

Iterative usability testing, heuristic evaluations and feedback from FJORD, a design and innovation studio, was used to refine the final solution.
