Hi, I’m Cody Losper and welcome to my portfolio. I am a creative and I’ve always been one ever since I picked up a pencil at three years old. I have never had any formal or professional background with design and this year I aimed to change that and nurture my creativity. I am from Elsies River, The Hood. It made me who I am today, a strong, independent and fearless person who takes every life challenge with a sip of cream soda. I love music and at night I host electronic music events as well as dj and I produce music in my spare time. Taking the leap to study graphic design this year has been the best decision I could make and I plan to conquer all the creative challenges to come.

This app was created to sooth mental tension and provide the user with a form of release. The app Relax Trax is created fro people who suffer from depression, anxiety and insomnia. We combined the idea of a field recorder and the mobile app “Pokemon Go”, to form an app that allows the user to perform activities while enjoying listening to their tranquil rewards. The user will go out and hunt for sounds via daily challenges provided by the app, the user then has a choice to store these recordings and replay them when their mental state seems to get them down. The field recordings recorded by the user form a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere while daily challenges encourage the user to build social confidence and “getting out of the house”. With Publication Design, I chose to work around the underground music scene and take cues from it to influence the look and feel of the magazine design. I incorporated some personal influences and events in the magazine to truly deliver it’s cause. The publication design and purpose of this magazine is aimed at targeting people who have a keen interest in this niche market by reading about the latest news in music, staying up to date with artists
as well as getting a back history of things that have influenced how the underground music scene has been shaped up till now. I named the magazine accordingly, “The Scene”.
Our concept was to show the influence of drinking habits from parent to child, and we used drinking objects to symbolise this. Our aim was to show how parents who abuse alcohol can indirectly influence their underage children to abuse alcohol, too. Our story started by making parents aware of the dangers of the underage drinking, then aware of their own influence on their children, and then lastly we wanted to encourage those parents to change their own negatively impactful drinking habits to avoid underage drinking in their children. We also wanted parents to know that Aware.org.za is here to support them through that process.
When it came to developing that concept into the final product, we approached it by looking at a number of factors: brand tone, brand font and colours (including colour psychology), typical environmental scenarios for the target market, research into the issue of underage drinking, the layout of the visual design and placement of text, and the emotions associated with alcohol abuse in a familial context.
For the packaging brief I wanted to have a very effective approach to the designs and have the concepts and ideations speak visually. On the apparel, Using simple colours and putting emphasis on the pattern which is a honeycomb, symbolizing bees and how cyclists dart through obstacles like bees going to their hive, this was an effective way to communicate speed and agility. For the packaging, I used bold and dramatic usage of copy to make the packaging visually striking so that people can see that it is limited edition. To create a brand and consumer bond, both packaging and apparel have “easter egg” designs on them, like small tags and logos at hard to find places. I did this because over time when the consumer revisits the packaging or piece of apparel and stumble upon these easter eggs, a sort of rekindling with the relationship of the product begins.
Having established my own brand in 2018, Slow Down, I took this brief as an opportunity to create a website for it. The website was built with HTML5, CSS, and a bit of javascript. The target audience for this website are people who have a keen interest in electronic music as
well as people who are into nightlife. The purpose of this website is to inform the audience and to help them stay engaged with the brand. The website hosts updates to the latest music events, DJ mixes, and staying up to date with the audience’s favorite artists. Embedded youtube links, as well as online music streaming sites like Soundcloud, were embedded in the site.
