CHIKITA VAN RENSBURG

GRAPHIC DESIGNER | ILLUSTRATOR

I am Chikita Van Rensburg, currently studying graphic design in the higher certificate course. I enjoy designing illustrating digitally as well as a packaging design. Throughout my work there is a strong undertone of being proudly South African and I love to explore the etymology of Afrikaans. I am a self-motivated individual and I enjoy coming up with creative concepts. My favorite memory at Red and Yellow would be when I entered the M.C.C label competition and created a beautiful bottle of gin. My hopes and dreams for the future would be to design more sustainably and encourage companies to think of the future.

About me

Malay food is unique to cape town and is immensely rich in heritage. The poster\invite consists of 5 icons providing the viewer with more visual information of the event. My design consists of bright colours that draw attention to the typography as well as the illustrations.

The following brief required me to design a website for an organisation that will spread positivity during the covid-19 pandemic. The concept behind vet n fyn plante huis is to inspire younger people to get into planting. The website aims to show the benefits of gardening and how therapeutic it can be. The logo design is inspired by bright colours of nature positive yellows and green. This brief presented itself as creative and skill improving.

Afrikaaps Magazine Cover

The following brief required students to design A4 magazine cover. Exploring the theme of a culture that the student identifies with as well as making use of the design elements and principles. Hand cut out shapes of the window as well as trees illustrated flat organic shapes that ultimately formed the artwork. The artwork strives to demonstrate the architecture of the Bo-kaap area as well as shed light on the content that the magazine creates.

Plant Mom

The following brief required students to work with keyframes, timing and timelines and create a short animation. The concept behind my animation was to put emphases around who I am as a person and what it takes to be a plant mom. You have to care for the plant from a seedling to maturity. The animation consists of a childlike sketch of a little Sunflower growing.
