My name is Céleste, I studied a BA in Visual Communication, I majored in Illustration. I arrived in Cape Town in 2018 from France to start my studies. Living thousands of kilometres away from home pushed me to engage with people and not to be afraid to do so. I developed an interest in the different personalities of people here, and that’s why I love to illustrate characters. The creative sphere in Cape Town is so various, I always try to draw my inspiration from it, and the people I meet. I love drawing people outfits because it tells a lot about their personalities.
As our phones and social media are a big part of our life, it is sometimes difficult to take a step back from what is happening on social media. The overload and variety of information when reading the news on social media can become quite overwhelming. I decided to create a board game about social media and social justice, which could help reduce anxiety. After playing this game with your friends, when reconnecting on social media the anxiety that you might have faced would be lighter because of the good memories you created around these types of information.
In any shape or form the game is trying to diminish the importance of these topics, but more trying to bring them forward in a different way.
Additionally, you will be able to go on the Game’s Instagram’ account and still learn new social issue topics as well as keep playing by answering the weekly quiz.
Lesedi’s logbook is a 20 pages Epub book with a posthuman non-linear narrative. I focused on the human and nature aspect of Posthuman. I was a lot inspired by the comic book writer and illustrator Lupano Andrae, specifically with the in pages of Azimut’s first book. I mixed watercolour and digital to create a ‘scientific’ illustration book. It is the story of Lesedi who survived the pandemic living in her bunker. She explores nature with her dog Lola in this post-apocalyptic world.
Nike I’mpact is a NikePlus new feature that my teammates (Masego Morgan & Anna Durr) and I have created for our D&AD project. Nike I’mpact is aimed to attract young Londonian girls to subscribe to the NikePlus membership. The fashion industry is the 4th largest contributor to environmental impact. 1 in 3 Generation Z buys second hand, not only to be sustainable but more importantly to find unique items of clothing that resonate with their personal style, allowing them to stand out and make an impact.
The feature would showcase a catalogue of preloved Nike gear which has been revamped by London’s local young designers. I created characters wearing the different londonian fashion style. I then animated them imitating trendy dance moves from TikTok.
Oranjezicht City Farm new brand identity.
Oranjezicht City Farm is over 300 years old, which used to cover all of Oranjezicht but became much smaller with the urbanisation of Cape Town. This farm offers to the habitants of Cape Town a place where they can grow their fruits and vegetables by purchasing a 6 months allotment!
They offer as well food and artistic workshops. On Saturday and Sunday, they have a food market situated in Green Point not far from the V&A.I decided to based my visual identity on a map as it portrays farm, nature and urbanisation in modern and unified way. Using warm earthy colours to create this welcoming and friendly look, combine with geometrical shapes to give a modern feel to the brand.
Nina Formanek, Nkanyiso Nxumalo, and I had to develop the name, logo, visual world, attitude and tone for a new Superbalist private label. The label had to be for a casual wear brand.
