CAITLIN GOODWIN

GRAPHIC DESIGNER | DIGITAL DESIGNER  | ILLUSTARTOR

Hello! My name is Caitlin Goodwin and I just completed the higher certificate in Graphic Design. I specialize in digital illustration and would describe my work as quite cute, colourful and usually incorporating lots of nature. Even though digital illustration is my number one passion, I ended up falling in love with animation this year and I can’t wait to expand on that more.
My favorite moment at Red & Yellow this year was the insane support system I felt during lockdown. My lecturer and my peers really kept me sane throughout that time and I will always be grateful for that. Because I loved studying at Red & Yellow this year, I’m actually going to continue to study there next year and get my degree in visual communications. I’m super excited to learn and grow some more

About me

Animation

The animation I’ve created would be part of a mini cartoon series aimed at older teens/young adults. The series is about this woman who gets lost in the jungle. In the series she fights animals, hunts for food and builds structures to sleep in. The series is supposed to empower young women and show them that anything is possible. Most action/survivor shows have males as the main character and i feel like it’s time to start having women as the main characters. This will then teach young women that they can essentially do whatever they put their mind to.
This “episode” would be the second last episode of the season. She’s been fighting off this big animal and eventually kills it. Then she discovers that she killed another animals cub. This is when the big yellow eyes appear behind her. She realizes this is the Mama of the cub she just killed and the mama is angry! This is where the episode ends and you’ll find out who wins the fight in the next episode – the season finale.

Identity

HOP is an eco-friendly baby store. They sell wooden toys, organic, locally made, clothing and items such as bamboo sippy cups & plates, reusable nappies and biodegradable baby wipes. The logo is based on folklore art where traditionally a rabbit symbolises fertility which I thought was appropriate for a baby store. The bright colours appeal to both the children and the adults.

Product Design

PAVE was a live client who specialise in premium cycling and triathlon clothing. The brand wanted a new fresh look for their cycling kit so they contacted the graphic design students at Red & Yellow and asked us to design some. I wanted to create a stylish, elegant kit. I did this by keeping things simple since a lot of cycling kits are very bright and busy. I really loved PAVE’s cobblestone icon which they have in their logo and so I copied this and created a pattern which you can see on the charcoal tops sleeves and across the chest of the army colour green top. This pattern would be made from reflective material if it were to be manufactured.

Web Design

The Clearing is a blog which is designed to make the user feel calm in the body and mind. These days there is so much negative content out there and it really does put strain on our body. The user can go onto The Clearing website and can learn how to stay present through breathing, meditation and exercise. Below the video at the top of the screen there is a play button. When the user presses play, a music frequency starts to play which is scientifically proven to calm the mind and body while promoting creativity. There is a supporting video for my website which is titled: An Ode to Pachamama. This video is supposed to create a sense of upliftment and connect whoever watches it to Pachamama (Mother Earth).

App Design

Geo Rhythm is a road trip music app which has mainly been designed for people travelling across Europe or America. When someone is going on a long road trip, they can download this app, turn on the location setting and the app will track where you are and will play music from whatever region you’re driving through. E.g. If one is driving across Europe and the app picks up that you’re in France, it will start to play French music. Geo Rhythm follows a timeless retro look.
