I designed a pet magazine. The issue is focused on Pitbulls. Pitbulls are the most misunderstood breed of dogs. I own a mixed breed pitbull, thus this issue is very close to my heart. I wanted to incorporate facts to educate others about Pitbulls. I decided to have a simple yet fun layout to embrace the fun loving and playful side of pitbulls. The colours are bright but not too many so that it does not take away from the focus of the real issue at hand and just complements the pitbull images and the joy that is brought by pets.
The theme is 90s music icons. It’s called “Original” because it’s the original rappers and rnb artists that will be featured in that magazine most of whom had died. The magazine embodies originality as the artists and music was very original in the 90s. Vibrant colors were chosen as the 80s and 90s were very vibrant. Graffiti was a big part of expression in the 90s and I feel like these icon artists were all about expressing themselves in a unique way.
The client (real) wanted an animal/jungle theme, which I did for both the invitation and poster to create coherence. I decided to use pastel colors, as pastel colors are commonly used to represent the soft, lightheartedness of babies. I also used different colors to keep the guests guessing and excited on what the gender of the baby would be. I used a baby elephant as a gender-neutral animal and fruit and veg to represent the jungle theme. The poster has information for the guests about how big the baby is as it grows in the mother’s womb to create excitement.
The client (real) wanted natural colors and a simple logo that was transferrable onto different mediums, such as websites as well as printed or embroided tshirts. She felt that successful companies have simple logos and she aspires for her company to grow to a successful company. The client wanted to incorporate a health element, as it was a holistic focused business. I chose an avocado to bring green and brown together to resemble an earth element.
I designed a website for a non-profit organization that helps children in need with food and clothes. I made the website very fun/childlike to represent the children because that’s the reason behind why investors would want to fund/donate. I made the website very simple and straight forward enough for anyone to navigate through but also still giving you an adventure and make you happy when you open a new tab or window to bring out the child within you which will hopefully evoke empathy and encourage you to donate towards the organization.
