AMBER HARMSE

ILLUSTRATOR | DIGITAL DESIGNER | CONTENT CREATOR

I’m an Illustrator with Digital Design experience. I’m a huge fan of character design, with a love for storytelling. I try to place humour in all my designs as I believe connecting with a viewer’s emotions is powerful, and who doesn’t like a good laugh once and awhile.
I’m a single mom with a three year old son, which has not only taught me patience but also how to get through whatever’s thrown my way. I believe no problem can’t be solved with a new tattoo and a quick dance in the bathroom.
My hopes and dreams consist of more adventures and less pre-primary school bullies.

About me

Loskop

Explore a local brand and create a new visual identity for them. Design at least three different touchpoints that link well with the company/brand chosen.
Loskop is a new and upcoming smash burger food truck. With the owners being three young and energised men, bright colours and fun illustrations were a must. By designing their food truck, burger wrappers and menu, the explosion of new tastes and experiences were brought to life.

StatusNO

This brief tasked us with creating a new Superbalist private label, as well as developing an online launch campaign for the brand.
This was a sportswear brand targeting people with everyday active living, for people who live an on-the-go lifestyle.
Based on research many people felt a disconnect with the active wear offerings due to the stereotypical looks pushed by sports brands based on gender, weight, and other factors. Our solution was a fresh, fluid attitude and approach to sportswear where you have the choice and freedom to define, and redefine, yourself. No standardised sizes. No gender stereotyping. Clothing for real people designed with ‘future fit’ people in mind. no boxes, no limits, no status quo – StatusNO

Young Mama Drama

Being a teen mother is frowned upon, with the main concern being the child and if ‘he/she is being properly looked after’. Although that is of course a concern, the young, usually single, mother is hardly ever asked how they are.
After speaking to young mothers their biggest issue is “loneliness”. This is not ‘social’ loneliness, but the feeling as though nobody understands what they are going through. By creating a CareBox that can be sent to a young single mother you know or even sent to yourself if you are a one, they are reminded that they aren’t alone and that there are other young mothers out there going through the same thing.

Due for an Upgrade

Explore the Posthuman world as you’d imagine it. Create a 20 page EPub that is illustration based and does not centre around words.
Humans are never the same. They come with unique looks, personality traits, and wants. This EPub explores the uniqueness of each person by showing what they would ‘upgrade’ if there came a time where technology took over. A portrait of them, along with a blueprint style of what they’d upgrade, the viewer is able to imagine the person and their personality.

African Bank

Create a campaign for African Bank that creates more awareness around their My WORLD account and its Pocket system.
The aim of this campaign was to target young people that are moving out of high school and into university where they need a way to manage their lives without the help of their parents. With the concept ‘Your bank account is a reflection of your bag’, we showed the target market how items in one’s bag can link with the different Pockets one could have.
